I am not quite sure how I was getting out of bed for the first week after the “news”. I recall that I seemed to be “snacking” on Xanax for the first few days, the “big pharma” anti-anxiety med was my best friend! The constant worry while you are on a “roller-coaster” of feelings and the endless waiting for the next call, test result or rejection from the insurance company!
Not long after “Xanaxfest 2017”, I received a package from my aunt and uncle in Georgia. The book, “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young. It is a daily devotional with referencing bible versus. I LOVE, NEEDED, NEED this reminder of the love of Jesus Christ, the love he has for me! This beautiful devotional is my “start” to everyday. I have grown very fond of my quiet time, first thing in the morning. I say my prayers, read my devotional and highlight my bible passages.
Almost 2 years later, my conversations with Jesus go all day! I am always asking for guidance in my thoughts and actions and FOR SURE control over my mouth! I still struggle with giving up the worry that takes over from time to time, but I am getting better at it! And, just a question….is there a limit to how many times a day you can ask for forgiveness? Just kidding….but I do ask at least once a day….just sayin! Baby steps….
These devotionals have helped me to learn to enjoy today, to focus on how and where I am being led and how I can serve. I have had to really re-train how I think! I was living without much thought for the day laid out ahead of me, but rather worried about tomorrow, next week, next year or beyond! You know what that takes from you? TODAY!!!

As a “new” cancer survivor, I need to keep my eyes on the tasks, tribulations and triumphs of today. With God’s blessing, tomorrow will have it’s own of the same!
